I wanted to strip this series to the bones. The X-hunters are fought for completeness's sake. X will never dash, take damage, collect upgrades, or use special weapons. This is a run through X2 in the spirit of a low% of X1, and then some. Well, it's certainly the most fast-paced Mega Man X, so I suppose speed running it comes naturally. There are only three stages up now, but more will come in the following days. Either way gameplay-only videos are available. This also features my own attempt at run commentary, so either that'll bolster the appeal or put you to sleep. I'd hope it's enough to hold people's interest. Besides that, X2 is so smoothly designed that even without the dash, the game moves at a solid pace and there are very few tepid moments. X's base jump is ludicrously inadequate, and the ways in which I have to work around that problem are sometimes flat-out odd. Unlike X1 where the first 8 stages are tailored to being possible without the leg upgrade, in X2 the worst issues come out of sometimes totally innocuous places, bosses transform in strategy, and I am routinely forced to cope with stretches of level where dashing was obviously intended. Why would you bother watching this? Well, I can offer that since X2 is so heavily designed around the dash, and a feel of speed in general, taking out that ability makes for some insanely disadvantageous positions for the majority of the game. Why would I want to do this? I ask myself that every time an idea of this nature pops up in my head. The final time is an amalgamation of video lengths as well as unseen time spent in password screens/one moment of entering and exiting stages to manipulate X-hunter placement. This was obviously not done in one fell swoop. While it's not a speed run in the strictest sense of heavy route planning, I try to go as fast as I can within reason. I've already recently completed a version of this challenge with X1, but the real draw for me doing this at all was to see if X2 and eventually 3 were possible if the dash had never been hardwired as a core mechanic. well, shoot me later, but I'm also using this topic to post a challenge run I've got ongoing. I brought up an interest in restrictions earlier. I didn't put any effort into route at all, I just sat down one day a long while back and told myself "You know what? I wanna see how fast I can get through this fucker on the fly!". My fastest times, outside of the Any% where I was just lazily emulating Freddy's run out of boredom, are basically as casual as it gets. Go ahead and post your times and I'll add 'em to this official looking list thing. Do you treat it like a Sonic game and blaze through with wanton disregard, or are you an honorable sort who likes the X-buster instead of weapons, or lets sleeping upgrades lie? Or just throw out some tidbits on how you like to play through this. I want to hear your times under set restrictions, if you have them. I want to hear your times, like any boring asshole does, but I want to hear more than that.
